“Woman Hollering Creek” first appeared in Sandra Cisneros’ 1991 book Woman Hollering Creek and Other Stories. Cleofilas Enriqueta DeLeon Hernandez is a young Mexican woman who moves to Texas with her new husband and begins a new life on the banks of Woman Hollering Creek. She finds herself trapped with an abusive husband in a country whose language she does not speak.
