iPad Resources For Social Science Faculty (East Campus): Timesaving & Productivity Apps

This guide is designed to provide resources and information for faculty interested in using the iPad during classroom lectures. This guide looks best in Firefox. Use Firefox if images appear distorted in Chrome or Edge.

Creating & Saving Documents

Evernote*
Stay organized with Evernote. Take notes, share notes with friends, capture images and voice memos, or clip articles and images from the Web. Best of all, sync the content across all of your devices.

Dropbox*
Sync files across all of your devices, save documents, and have access to them from any computer or mobile device. Dropbox allows for easy moving of files from one device to another. Think of it as an online thumb drive.

Voice recognition technology allows you to speak and immediately see your text. Use to take notes, send email, or update your Facebook status. Integrates directly with Twitter and Facebook

Documents To Go Premium*
View and create Word & Excel files on the iPad. The app can also view PowerPoint, PDF, iWorks and other files. The free desktop client allows wifi syncing of files between a Mac, PC and iOS device.

Quickoffice Pro HD*
Create and edit all types of Microsoft Office documents and files. You can also link the app to Google Drive and other cloud storage accounts.

Catch notes iTunes icon

Catch Notes*
Similar to Evernote, allows you to capture voice memos, photos, notes, and other text and share them across all of your mobile devices, or with friends.

Google Drive
Google Drive provides 5GB of free storage and allows you to sync files, edit documents, offline access, and convenient sharing of photos.

Microsoft Word
Allows reading but not editing of Microsoft Word documents on the iPad. A Powerpoint and Excel app is also available, but like the Word App, requires a subscription to office 365 to be able to edit documents on the iPad.

Pages*
Apple's word processing software that seamlessly stores documents in iCloud and is accessible from anywhere. Save on your Mac and access on your mobile device.

Presentations & Productivity

Prezi*
Create, edit, and present presentations from an iPad, PC, or Mac. Presentations created on one device are accessible on all devices through the cloud

Whiteboard Lite*
Collaborate with friends or group members on projects over local Wifi. Two users can draw at the same time

Power Presenter*
Designed to present from an iPad to a projector. Allows customizable drawing and annotation of slides with the ability to save as  PDF documents, or email documents from within the app.
