LinkedIn Tips

5 LinkedIn Tips:

1. LinkedIn is only used for professional connections unlike Twitter, Facebook, or other social media platforms. When creating your profile make sure you incorporate the information shared throughout this LibGuide.
2. Do not lie on your LinkedIn profile.  It may seem like stating the obvious, but even small embellishments can have a serious impact.
3. Do not ignore your LinkedIn messages, even if you do not know the person who is trying to connect with you. These messages could be opportunities for internships and/or employment.
4.  Do not neglect LinkedIn features. If you just have a profile, you are not using LinkedIn to your fullest advantage. Make sure to join groups, connect with professionals in your field, and follow companies or organizations of interest.
5. Though you can apply for jobs through LinkedIn, do not make your LinkedIn profile the only information you include when applying for a job. Include your resume, fill out the job application in full, and if you can upload other documents include a cover letter and a letter of recommendation.
