ENC 1102 (Carruth): Autoethnography

Selecting a Subculture

When selecting a subculture, remember that the selected subculture must have two way communication and must be a subculture to which you personally contribute.

The following list may be helpful in identifying a subculture, but not every subculture on the list will qualify for this assignment.

Remember to consider your role in the subculture when deciding on a topic.

Peer-Reviewed Sources for Scholarly Research

This assignment requires 5 expert sources of which 3 must be peer-reviewed journal articles.

So what is a peer-reviewed journal article?

Watch the video to find out.

Finding Peer Reviewed Articles

To find peer-reviewed articles, search in databases.

Most databases have a box that can be checked off to limit to peer-reviewed articles. Depending on the database, this box may be labeled peer-review, academic, scholarly or refereed articles.

Search either on a particular subculture, such as Goth, or on subcultures in general.

Additional Sources

Search the library catalog for ebooks on subcultures.

Ebooks are not peer-reviewed journal articles but may be used as additional sources.
