There are 2 ways to open the Library's Catalog.
The first way is through Atlas (the more popular method):
The second method is through the library's website:
The library's catalog is a great place to start your research. It is a one-stop shop for books, articles, and videos. As a Valencia student, you have access to materials at other Valencia campuses and even other academic libraries throughout the state of Florida.
When searching the catalog, you are basically playing a game of match. You want to match the words you enter into the search box with those words that are in the item's record. Keep in mind that sometimes people use different words to describe the same topic. Have you ever heard someone from the Midwest order a pop a.k.a soda? Likewise, there are multiple words that can be used to describe a doctor: physician, surgeon, general practitioner, and cardiologist to name a few.
In order to cover all of your bases, it is important to think of a variety of words that describe your topic. Then do multiple searches in the catalog using those different keywords. Additionally, utilize the search options available to you. The default is the keyword option which is okay to start with. You also have the option to search by title (my favorite) or by subject.
Research tip #1: As you perform your searches, review the results list for additional keywords you may use in your future searches. Also, click on the titles to open the item's record. Here, you will often find table of contents and subject headings that you can use for keywords.
Research tip #2: Try adding terms such as career, job, profession, industry, profile, employment, vocational guidance, field to your search terms.
