Astronaut, Jeanette Epps

Jeanette Epps in blue astronaut suit with American flag in the background.Jeanette Epps is an African American astronaut. As a child, Epps's older brother inspired her to become an astronaut. She worked as an aerospace engineer for Ford Motors prior to being selected to NASA's astronaut training program. Her first space flight was originally scheduled for 2018, but she was reassigned at the last moment. In August of 2020, Epps was assigned to the maiden crewed voyage of Boeing's CST-100 Starliner, a private spacecraft that will transport NASA astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS). If the mission lifts off as scheduled in 2021, Epps will become the first African American woman to join the ISS crew.
