Valencia College Library Collection Development Procedure

The library supports the American Library Association (ALA) Library Bill of Rights and its interpretation as affirmed in the ALA statements, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion: An Interpretation of the Library Bill of Rights   and Diverse Collections: An Interpretation of the Library Bill of Rights. In communication with diverse voices throughout the Valencia community, we proactively seek to represent a full range of viewpoints and experiences in our collections, including those of socially excluded, marginalized and underrepresented people. The library does not exclude materials because of the origin, background or views of those contributing to their creation; we foster inclusion by challenging censorship. Our collection development practices are transparent; we invite and consider input from all stakeholders in our college community.  Furthermore, we seek to ensure the library collections are accessible to all users and regularly review our procedures and practices with the goal of advancing equity of access.

The Valencia College libraries do not welcome solicitation of resources to be added to our LibGuides. This includes but is not limited to vendors, search engine optimizers, placement of ads, products, or any other requests. Our LibGuides are carefully curated resources developed in partnership with faculty, staff, and students to support specific assignments, courses, events, and other related purposes at Valencia College. The Valencia libraries reserve the right to ignore LibGuide resource solicitations, and/or block persistent requests from groups or individuals to add or promote links in our LibGuides.
