VAHA Book Discussion: Scholarship Assignment

Submitting Video Presentation

Below you will find information on the optional VAHA Summer 2022 Book Discussion. This scholarship opportunity is part of the "Good Trouble Scholarship" (named in honor of John Lewis).

To be considered for the optional VAHA Summer 2022 Book Discussion scholarship opportunity, the student will need to create a video submission. Review the information below to learn more. 

  1. Submit the video presentation by Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at 11:59 PM. Award amount of $310 to 3 recipients.
  2. Make a visual expression 2-3 minutes long using YouTube, Prezi, or PowerPoint.  
  3. Reflect on one of the themes from "Monday's Not Coming."  
  4. Video Content to include/questions to consider:  
    1. What theme from the book did you choose and why?  
    2. How did it resonate with you?   
    3. Compare/contrast to a past or current event.  
    4. Reflect on one or two symbols in Heavy and explain how they impacted the story.  
    5. Here are a few tips for making your visual presentation. Make sure you select a quiet location with minimal to zero background noise. Orient the camera to landscape NOT portrait.

Orient the camera to landscape NOT portrait.  Position the camera so the subject/content is entirely visible within the frame. Make sure there is proper/sufficient lighting: no backlighting. Run a test on the audio to make sure it is loud enough.  For the video, make sure the image is clear (clean lens). Record the final version of the scenes and script. You may use software such as iMovie or Windows Movie Maker. More advanced (and paid) options are Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or Sony Vegas. Edit video and upload it to YouTube or OneDrive. Submit your video presentation or link from your Valencia College student email to Angela Hall: ahall106@valenciacollege.edu.
