NB -- Sculpture, Fine Arts

NB60-1115 -- History, Sculpture (Where most sculptor biographies can be found)

ND49-813 -- History, Painting (Where most painter biographies can be found)

Accessing Databases

There are two ways to search for books and other materials at Valencia College Libraries:

1. Log into your Atlas account and click the "Search the Library" link on the left side of the screen or in the “My Atlas” tab or in the upper right corner of the "Courses" tab. When the Library Catalog page opens, you will already be logged in.

2. Start at any Valencia Web Page and select Libraries on Quick Links.

If you need to place a hold, request a book online, or use any of our electronic resources you will need to login. Click on the big yellow Search button. The Loginbutton is at the top right corner of the screen. To login you will need to enter your Valencia Identification number (your "V" number) including the "V" in the box for Borrower's ID. Your PIN will be the last 4 digits of your "V" number.

Once the Library Catalog page opens, Clicking Advanced Search is the best way to do a search so you can limit your search to items we have at Osceola or limit by item type. I HIGHLY recommend at least limiting Material Type to Omit Books so that you are not overwhelmed with articles that may or may not be appropriate to use and may or may not have full text.

Helpful Books

The following books are available at the Osceola Campus Library and are relevant to your assignment:

Please note that any book marked reference must be viewed in the library, and cannot be checked out. Do an online book search (directions to the left), or consult a campus librarian for help locating any books on your topic.

Mythology in Art

Biographical Information

The books below are anthologies that contain many brief artist biographies, but many artists have entire books dedicated to their biographies. Search the book catalog (link on left) to see if your author has his or her own biographical book.

Explaining the Myth or Story Portrayed

The books below are mythology references. They do not contain any information about art, but will help you research the background of the story portrayed in your work of art.

Identifying Symbols

The books below are about general symbols in art. Very few books in the library will contain your exact work of art and an explanation of the symbols, so you may have to pick a color, object, or person present in your work of art and research what it symbolizes in general.
