Barn Burning

 

The short story “Barn Burning” by William Faulkner was first published in Harper’s magazine in 1939.  It deals with the inner conflict of ten-year old Sarty Snopes as he tries to choose between family loyalty and truth and justice.  The story subtly highlights to choices one must make in order to become more mature and responsible.
