A Clean, Well-Lighted Place
Published in Scribner’s Magazine in 1933, “A Clean, Well-Lighted Place” by Ernest Hemingway takes place in a café late at night. Two waiters, one old and one young, wait on one last customer, an old man who is drunk. The waiters cannot leave until the old man goes home, and the younger is impatient with the situation.
