The short story “The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber” by Ernest Hemingway was first published in 1936.  Francis Macomber and his wife Margot are on safari in Africa.  While on a lion hunt with Robert Wilson, a professional hunter and guide, Macomber shows cowardice by running from a lion he has wounded.
