Soldier’s Home
First published in 1925, the short story “Soldier’s Home” written by Ernest Hemingway is set in a small town in Oklahoma. The central character of this story is Harold Krebs, a Marine who has just returned home after fighting in World War I. In the story, Krebs struggles with telling the truth about the atrocities of war, or dishonestly portraying them as heroic deeds, which is what the town people want to hear and believe in.
