Young Goodman Brown

The short story “Young Goodman Brown” by Nathaniel Hawthorne was first published in the New England magazine in 1835.  The protagonist of the story, Young Goodman Brown, ventures into the forest to join in the witches’ Sabbath or Black Mass.  This classic American short story focuses on Brown’s surprise and distaste at discovering the other participants of the Satanic Communion, and his guilty conscience at his own participation in the event.
