Because I Could Not Stop for Death (The Chariot)

 The poem “Because I Could Not Stop for Death” by Emily Dickinson was published in 1890.  In this poem the deceased narrator reminisces about the day Death came calling on her.  Death is personified as a suitor who will take his bride away from a busy and full life.
