Death, Be Not Proud (Holy Sonnet 10)
John Donne was a famous seventeenth-century English poet known for his complex love poems and religious poetry. One of Donne’s better-known religious or “divine” poems is “Death, Be Not Proud,” also known as “Holy Sonnet 10 (X),” published in 1633. In this sonnet-form poem, death will be defeated through eternal life promised by faith.
