Diving into the Wreck
The poem “Diving into the Wreck,” by Adrienne Rich, was published in 1973. It is part of a poetry collection with that same title. The poem is about the exploration of a sunken ship to discover why it sank and to retrieve any treasure. The idea of descent and return is a famous one in Western literature. Also, this feminist poem describes a woman’s search for inner strength and self-fulfillment.
