Ex-Basketball Player



John Updike (1932-2009) was a famous American author known for his novels, short stories, and poetry.  In 1958, Updike’s collection of poems called The Carpentered Hen, and Other Tame Creatures was published.  One of the poems in this collection, “Ex-Basketball Player,” concerns a former athlete whose glory has faded away.
