Morning Song
Sylvia Plath wrote the poem “Morning Song” (in her book of poetry- Ariel, 1965) in 1961. In this frank and somewhat detached poem she only sees herself as a mother in that her newborn is simply a reflection with which to watch herself age. The mother-speaker moves from a strange alienation to a kind of instinctive awakening to the child’s presence, and praises her baby at the end of the poem.
