Ask The Puma Research Guides: Ulysses

Quick start research guides to hundreds of assignments given at Valencia East Campus.

The poem “Ulysses” by English poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson, was published in 1842 in his book, Poems. It is based on The Odyssey, written by the Greek poet Homer.  Tennyson has identified the source of this poem’s emotion as rising from his feelings about the death of his college friend, Arthur Hallam.  He related his friend’s death to this tale of Ulysses’ desire to return to a life of adventure on the sea.
