Awakening (the novel)
The Awakening, by Kate Chopin, tells the story of a woman (Edna Pontellier) who abandons her old life of family, tradition and 1890s religious and societal constraints for love and sexual fulfillment with a younger man (Robert Lebrun). Far ahead of its time in subject matter, this novel caused quite a stir when it was published in 1899.
