In this 1963 semi-autobiographical novel by Sylvia Plath, Emily Greenwood, a talented college student in 1953, struggles with societal expectations of women and class issues, as she spends the summer interning in New York, returns to Boston depressed, and ends up in a hospital after a suicide attempt.
