Frankenstein
The novel Frankenstein, by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, was first published in 1818. Victor Frankenstein, a scientist eager to create life, conveys to an Arctic explorer his reason for appearing so suddenly on the desolate, icy wastes. Frankenstein tells the explorer of his manufacture of a creature and of the disastrous consequences.
