Of Mice and Men

The novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck was published in 1937.   The story concerns two causal laborers, George and Lennie, who travel from one ranch to another always dreaming of a place of their own.  Lennie inadvertently kills the wife of the boss' son; George, out of loyalty and friendship, is forced to shoot Lennie in order to save him from an angry mob.
