The Shining (the 1980 movie)
Jack Torrence, former teacher and struggling writer accepts a job as a summer resort caretaker who is prepared to remain there snowbound over the winter with only his wife and telepathic son. Torrence slowly loses his mind as the hotel takes on life of its own, directing him for its own horrifying purposes. Directed by Stanley Kubrick and starring Jack Nicholson, this film takes the story in a substantially different direction than the author of the book might have liked. Author Stephen King was so dissatisfied with Kubrick’s changes to his novel in this film that he created the 1997 television miniseries version of The Shining to more closely follow his book’s storyline.
