Luncheon on the Grass
Edouard Manet was a famous nineteenth-century French painter. He was an influential Impressionist painter, using everyday subject matter, vivid color, and stress on light in his art. Manet painted and exhibited Luncheon on the Grass (Dejeuner sur l’Herbe) in 1863. This masterpiece shocked Victorian Parisians, as it shows a nude woman seated at a picnic lunch with two fully dressed young men. Luncheon on the Grass now is exhibited in the Musee d’Orsay in Paris, France.
