The Calling of Saint Matthew

Caravaggio was a famous Italian artist who lived from 1571-1610.  Caravaggio was noted for paintings of Biblical figures that dramatically contrasted light and dark shades.  His masterpiece, The Calling of Saint Matthew (1597-1601), concerns how Matthew was chosen by Jesus to be one of His apostles.  This painting now is located in the Contarelli Chapel, San Luigi dei Francesi, in Rome, Italy.
