Martin Luther was born into a world transitioning between the Middle and Modern Ages. The printing press helped spread the Reformation throughout Europe.
Bureaucracy and corruption plagued the Vatican during the 16th century. The Reformation began as Martin Luther denounced Catholic church abuses such as the sale of indulgences to absolve people of their sins.
