Humanities Annotated Bibliography Assignment (Grant): Step 3: Find 3 Books

Using Books

When using books keep in mind that you may not need to read the entire book. Often a particular chapter is all you need for your research.

Search the library catalog for books on your topic.

When searching the catalog, be sure to limit to West (next to search box) and books (under search box) before you search.

When looking at your results list, notice

  • whether the book is Available. If it is, it should be on the shelf.
  • whether the location is Circulation. If it is, it is a book that may be checked out, and it is in the tall bookcases on the 2nd floor.
  • make note of the call number, e.g. (PA4279.A2)
  • use the call number to find the book. Books are arranged by subject; there should be other books on the same subject next to your book

If you have trouble finding your books, please ask a librarian; we're happy to help you!
