ENC 1101 (Farmer): Topic Ideas

Pick a Topic

Start by picking a topic, such as:

  • Food Safety
  • Human Trafficking
  • Identity Theft
  • Road Rage

The following databases are helpful in finding topic ideas:

Databases are collections of information, usually in the form of articles. The articles come from:

  • newspapers
  • magazines
  • scholarly journals
  • books

Newspapers, magazines, scholarly journals, and books are considered credible sources because they have an editorial review process. An editorial review process means they have an editor who makes sure information is fact checked before it is published. The editor also issues corrections if the publication makes a mistake in this process.

Databases are a subscription service. College libraries subscribe to them, as do public libraries, and sometimes companies.

Because they are a subscription service, a login is required. To login to these databases,

  • Open Atlas
  • Go to MyAtlas or Courses tab
  • Click on Search the Library
