HUM 2220 (Hoaglen): The Roman Empire

Banner with Forum Ruins in the Background, text: Roman Empire

Overview and Directions

This is our last module of the term.  It is important to practice the same habits as in previous modules: read the articles, watch the documentaries, and let the slides on Canvas guide you as you read and learn about the Roman Empire.  It is important to think about both the culture and history of Rome in conjunction with the artifacts: I want students to mainly focus on Roman architecture and Virgil's Aeneid.

Focus your reading on the following artifacts:

Roman arch

Roman Forum

Roman Aqueducts

Roman Colosseum

Pantheon

Culture and History of the Roman Republic and Empire

Roman Empire 330 CEMap of the Roman Empire 800 BCE-476 CE
