Quick Start Library Guide: For Students

Use this handy guide to learn about and gain access to all the library resources from home or on-the-go!


Valencia College libraries will remain closed in Phase 3 of the reopening plan, throughout the Summer 2021 semester.  There will be no access to materials in the closed buildings.  Library services will remain online and we are ready to assist you with your research needs.  All due dates have been extended to August 16, 2021.  Please wait until the library reopens to return borrowed materials and equipment.  All fees and fines for library materials due during the closure will be waived.

Ask a Librarian

Need help with research or library resources? Get help from Valencia College librarians at Ask-a-Librarian.

Ask a Librarian provides online help through live chat and text messaging from 10 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday (ET), and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday (ET).

Get help from Valencia College librarians and librarians from around the state of Florida.

During the Summer 2021 term, students can chat live online or text a Valencia College librarian during the hours of 

  • Monday - Thursday 8am-9pm
  • Friday 8am-5pm
  • Saturday 8am-2pm

During off hours, students can send an e-mail that librarians will retrieve when the virtual desk reopens.

Ask a Librarian is a statewide service. In addition to the Valencia College hours, librarians from other libraries throughout Florida are available to chat live with students until midnight, Sunday through Thursday. 

To Connect to the Library via Atlas:

1. Log in to Atlas:

2. Go to the MyAtlas tab, Courses tab, or Employees tab.

3. Under Libraries, click Search the Library.

If Atlas is unavailable, or to access a direct link to a library resource, log in using your Borrower ID and PIN.

1. Go directly to the library catalog page:

3. In the upper right corner, click Log In.

4. Enter your Borrower ID and PIN. Unless you have changed them, 

  • the Borrower ID is your VID number 
  • the PIN is the last 4 digits of your VID number

A research guide is an organized collection of resources that librarians, in conjunction with your professors, have created to highlight resources that will help you research your assignment. You can use a research guide to get background or in depth information related to your assignment.

Big Read Event at Valencia College!

Thanks to all who requested a book and participated in the kickoff and wrap up events with the author. Watch for print books (available free to students) at libraries when we open this Fall.  Binti is an Africanfuturist science fiction horror novella and has won many awards including the Hugo and Nebula awards and first book in a trilogy.
This project was funded under the provisions of the DLIS Florida CARES Act from the Institute of the Museum and Library Services.  Florida's DLIS Florida's CARES Act program is administered by the Department of State's Division of Library and Information Science.

Questions About Library Accounts

Students with questions in regard to their library account; database access; fees and fines; holds on their registration; books, equipment or other items checked out currently; etc., can email or call 407-582-2459.

Questions About Borrowed Materials & Equipment

Please wait until the library reopens to return borrowed materials and equipment.  All fees and fines for library materials due during the closure will be waived.

Questions About Textbooks

The library does not sell textbooks. Textbooks can be purchased through the Campus Store. For information and updates on purchasing textbooks from the Campus Store during Phase 2 of the reopening plan, see the COVID-19 Student FAQ.

Questions About Interlibrary Loan / UBorrow

During the closure, interlibrary loan and requests from other state institutions through UBorrow will be unavailable. All existing interlibrary loan requests for physical items are on hold. If you have a request for an electronic resource, such as an online journal article held by another institution, contact your campus library to see if the materials are obtainable.

Questions About Technology Support

Students who need help with technology skills, such as Microsoft Office, devices, Canvas, or applications like YouTube can request an online appointment with a staff member in Learning Support.

Questions About Laptops

If you are enrolled in classes for the current semester, submit this form to request a laptop. There are a limited number of laptops available so please use this service only if necessary. 

Questions About Hotspots

If you are having Internet connectivity issues you can borrow a free T-Mobile Hotspot from the Valencia Student Hotspot Program

You can also rent a hotspot from the Valencia Bookstore for 3 months for $135; financial aid can be used for this. 

Questions About Graphing Calculators 

A limited number of calculators are available. If you live closer to the East Campus, click here for more information. If you live closer to the Osceola Campus, submit this form. You can also find free software online that mimics a graphing calculator--try searching Google for free graphing calculators. 

Questions About Tutoring
